Setup Instructions for Mozilla Thunderbird Email
- Open up Thunderbird.
- Click the 'Tools' menu and choose 'Account Settings'.
- In the left column of the Account Setting window, you will see the
Outgoing Server (SMTP) settings. Click this in the left column so that
it is highlighted. Next, in the right column, click the 'Add' button
button in the upper right corner of the right column, to enter the SMTP
server information.
- In the window that appears, type a description, such as 'Com-Link'.
In the box for Server Name, enter mail.yourdomainname**.com. (ie. if
your address is @linkiowa.com, put mail.linkiowa.com).
**Replace this with your email address domain. For example, your email address is Judy@linkiowa.com, your mail servers are mail.linkiowa.com. Similarly for Judy@pcsis.net, your mail servers are mail.pcsis.net.
- Leave the Port number as its default, 25.
- Under Security and Authentication, make sure the box for 'Use name
and password' is checked.
- Enter your full email address for your User Name.
- Leave the secure connection settings at default.
- Click OK. You will now return to the Account Settings window automatically.
- Next, back in the Account Settings window, click 'Add Account' in
the lower left corner of the window.
- The wizard will open, and will ask what type of account you are adding.
Choose 'Email Account' and click 'Next'.
- Enter your name as you would like it to appear, such as 'Jane'.
- Enter your email address as give to you by Com-Link and click 'Next'.
- The next screen will ask type of incoming server. Choose POP.
- The incoming mail server is mail.yourdomainname**.com
**Replace this with your email address domain. For example, your email address is Judy@linkiowa.com, your mail servers are mail.linkiowa.com. Similarly for Judy@pcsis.net, your mail servers are mail.pcsis.net.
- When asked if you would like to use a Global Inbox, you may choose
whatever you'd like. This is a personal preference. You may read the
instructions for further information regarding this point. When done,
click 'Next'.
- Your Incoming username is your full email address. Click 'Next'.
- Your account name should be filled in automatically for you here.
Click 'Next'.
- On the final screen click 'Finish'. Click 'Ok' out of the Account
Settings window.
- Thunderbird Setup is finished!
