Instructions to setup Outlook Express filters
- Open up Outlook Express.
- Click the 'Tools' menu and choose 'Message Rules'. Choose 'Mail' from
under 'Message Rules'.
- A new window labeled 'New Mail Rule' will appear.
- The first option asks: Select the conditions for your rule. Click
the box next to 'Where the Subject line contains specific words'
- Once you click the box 'Where the Subject line contains specific words,'
that same phrase will appear in the third section Rule Description.
'Contains specific words' will be underlined in the third section. Click
the underlined words, which will open up a new box for you to type.
Type in [Com-Link possible spam] exactly as you see it in your subject
lines, and then click the 'Add' button next to it.
- You will now see your phrase in the 'Words' box. Click the 'OK' button.
- The second option asks: Select the actions for your rule. You may
choose whichever you prefer, but we recommend choosing the box next
to 'Move it to the specified folder'. Once this box is checked, the
phrase 'Move it to the specified folder' appears in the third
section, Rule Description.
- To choose which folder you want the messages to be moved to, click
the underlined word 'specified' that appears in the third section. This
will open up a window where you can choose an existing mailbox folder,
or create a new one. We recommend creating a new folder labeled 'Junk'.
After creating the Junk folder, you may choose it to be the place for
spam messages.
- The fourth section is labeled Name of the Rule. You can leave this
at its default, or you may give it a custom name.
- Click 'OK' at the bottom of the New Mail Rule window to close it.
- Any new messages coming into your Outlook Inbox with the subject containing
[Com-Link possible spam] will be automatically moved to the folder Junk,
and you may check to make sure any legitimate messages are moved back
to the inbox, and delete all the rest of the spam messages.
- This will allow you to ensure that no messages that you wish to receive
are removed by our spam filters, and should give you more control regarding
the messages you see in your Inbox.
