Setup Instructions for Mac OS X: Mac Mail
Mac Mail
- Open up Mac Mail.
- Click the 'Mail' Menu, and choose 'Preferences'.
- The Mail Setup window may appear if you have no accounts setup. If
so, you can skip the next few steps.
- Click the Accounts icon in the Mail Preferences window.
- Click Create Account.
- Choose the account type to be 'POP' from the menu.
- It will ask for a Description. Type any name you'd like to use to
identify the account.
- Please fill out the rest of the information. We've included the necessary
below:
- Your Email address
- incoming mail server: mail.yourdomainhere**.com
**Replace this with your email address domain. For example, your email address is Judy@linkiowa.com, your mail servers are mail.linkiowa.com. Similarly for Judy@pcsis.net, your mail servers are mail.pcsis.net.
- outgoing mail server: mail.yourdomainhere**.com
**Replace this with your email address domain. For example, your email address is Judy@linkiowa.com, your mail servers are mail.linkiowa.com. Similarly for Judy@pcsis.net, your mail servers are mail.pcsis.net.
- When asked for your Account name and password, enter your full
email address as your account name, and then your password.
The box labeled 'Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) should not be checked.
- Click 'Finish' when you are done.
- There is ONE more step. Please click the 'Mail' Menu again.
Choose 'Preferences'.
- Find the account you just created under Description. Click this account,
so it is highlighted, and then click the 'Edit' button.
- Toward the bottom, click the list for Outoing Mail Server. Choose
'Add' server, if none is listed, or edit the current server.
- Make sure the outgoing mail server is mail.yourdomainname**.com (see
note above), server port is 25, do NOT use Secure Sockets Layer, Authentication
option is set to 'PASSWORD'. Enter your email address as the username
and retype your password.
- Click OK out of all windows. You are setup!
- To ensure that your mail program will automatically check for new
mail, click the 'Mail' menu, and choose 'Preferences'. In this new window,
there is a drop-down list for 'Check for new mail:'. Set this to your
preferred method.
- To check mail manually, click the menu 'Mailbox', and choose 'Get New Mail'
